The recent trek we undertook on 23 November 2025 from Kodaikanal Observatory to Gundar Zero point was commendable. This trek initiative aimed at creating an eco-sensitive trip among the young ones is a welcome development by the Tamil Nadu Government. This relatively easier trekking path with constantly changing climatic conditions, natural scenic beauties of the hills is a very pleasant experience in itself. During the trek, we spotted various floras, indigenous to the Western ghats as well as certain wild faunas like Sambhar deer, foot marks and various other signs of wild animal crossings like that of a Leopard and various deer. Mr Mani sir and Mr Deepak Sir who accompanied us were well-informed about the environment and facilitated the trek to make it look easy. Sub-Inspector sir who received us after the trek was much considerate in getting our opinions, feedback and suggestions. #trektamilnadu provided us with a complimentary cap with their inscribed logo and zero-wastage food in the trip. They did make sure that we carry only reusable steel flasks for carrying water into the forest. The Shola Forest that dominated the landscape along with Eucalyptus Forest are treat for our eyes as well as our senses. The variegated birds, their chirping sounds and reciprocative responses towards us were splendid. Our trek leaders explained the traditional uses of various plants grown in the region as food as well as medicine for generations of indigenous people. As the climatic conditions changing constantly, it is advisable to take precaution against leeches in the grass during and after the rains. The explanation of uphill water resourcing for Kodaikanal town from Gundar Zero Point was much informative. As we reached our destination point of the trek, it was highly blessing when we saw the scenic and mesmerising spot of Gundar waterfall in its pristine beauty.
