  • LONGWOOD SHOLA

The Longwood Shola Reserve forest, a Ramsar site, is a unique haven for nature lovers and birdwatchers. It boasts around 40 tree species, four reptiles, 14 frogs species and 14 birds endemic to the Western Ghats. Keep your eyes peeled for the vibrant plumage of Nilgiri Laughing Thrush and the distinct calls of White bellied blue robin. The reserve offers diverse experiences, from marshes to Shola forests. It's a testament to the importance of preserving natural habitats.

 

  • AVALANCHE- KOLARIBETTA

The village of Avalanche, located 16 km from Ooty, offers an enchanting journey via a local jeep through the picturesque Cauliflower Shola forest. The trail leads to a vast expanse of grasslands and the majestic peak of Kolaribeta. The region is bustling with diverse wildlife, and you can savour a spectacular panoramic view at the trail summit.   • MANAMBOLLY

Manambolly is a secluded Shola forest in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve of Valparai.  This forest is home to endemic species; Lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Yellow browed bulbul, Nilgiri wood pigeon, Malabar tree nymph etc . Its beautiful shola forest, fast-flowing rivers and cascades, and majestic mountains make it a paradise for nature lovers. If you are super lucky, you can have the glimpse of Crocodiles at the end of the trekking trail.

 

  • TOPSLIP

Topslip is situated near Pollachi town along the Anamalai mountain ranges of Tamil Nadu. The misty mountains and the dense forest under a thick canopy of tall trees create a dream-like setting. Topslip is the entry point to Anamalai, a biodiversity hotspot. You will likely enjoy a glimpse of the big cat here. The trek starts from Karianchola, and as you stroll through the wilderness, you will spot many species in the darkness of the thick canopy. You then start climbing up, passing through bamboo thickets, grasslands, and further through rock formations to reach a spot from where you can catch a 360-degree view of the landscape. Trek further to reach a hilltop with grasslands where you can spot Nilgiri Thar, Gaurs, and even a leopard. Big raptors are a common visual here. Then, you can trek back downhill, which is equally demanding as the trek uphill.

  • VELLAGAVI

Vellagavi, a picturesque village located in Kodaikanal, is accessible through a challenging 3-hour trek from Vattakanal. The villagers hold their village highly, considering it a sacred space where even footwear is not worn. The residents, known for their warm and friendly nature, reside in approximately 50 houses and have established several temples and a primary school. The trek to the village traverses the enchanting forests and plantations.
