It the nearest trail from chennai 1.5 to 2 hrs drive, the drive to the trail itself is beautiful. The staffs are very kind. Good initiate by govt on employing the local people for the job. Mr. Mahendran our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The whole experience was awesome, the trail is easy so its good for first timers. The second cave view from the top of first cave is epic. The watch tower view is also great. Learnt a lot about the history of the place and its folk stories too. Thank you for the whole team and govt of TN.
Gudiyam Caves ❤️ is my first trek experience. I booked this trek solo and was afraid all the days till I met the stranger girl gang who all turned beautiful sisters 🎀. Mr. Jagadeesh was the person I contacted first for the location and travel concerns. He was very sweet in explaining the whole thing and even checked 2 times while travelling to ensure correct drop off point. Mr. Mahendran was our trek guide who narrated the whole history of the caves and explained about some rare plants, flowers, reptiles, birds and animals. The history was fascinating. We started by 8 am and completed by 1 pm after taking a lot of pictures and videos. Except a 50 m steep after Cave 1, the whole trek was super easy. Our guide even helped us during the steep climb. To any beginner who wants to know what is trekking about, gudiyam caves is the best one to start off ✅️ Travel : From Tiruvallur or Chennai take a bus to "PLACEPALAYAM" which drops you off near the trek reception. Requesting TamilNadu govt. to provide public transport facility to all the trek reception points, so that it will be easy to reach on time.
I visited gudiyam caves today. It was such a wonderful experience. I was easily able to find இரும்புளி(irumbuli), கருங்காலி(karungali), புரசு(purasu), மோதிரக்கனி(mothirakani), குகைமதி(gukaimathi), வக்கனை(vakkannai) and many more Tropical dry evergreen forest trees... unfortunately I was not able to thank my guide after the trek. I want to contact my guide mr muthu who explained the trees very well so pls share his contact number
The trek was far more than a nature walk—it felt like stepping back in time. Gudiyam Cave, believed to have been inhabited nearly 200,000 years ago by Stone Age humans, stands as one of India’s most remarkable prehistoric sites. Standing inside the cave and picturing how early humans once lived there was truly an awe‑inspiring experience. It’s amazing to discover such a historically rich and significant location just outside Chennai. The trail itself was scenic, refreshing, and well‑suited for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. The team from Trek Tamil Nadu ensured seamless coordination, prioritizing safety while sharing fascinating insights about the cave’s archaeological importance, the local flora and fauna, and even the reptiles found in the region. Their dedication made the entire journey enjoyable and peaceful Overall, it was a beautiful blend of history, nature, and adventure. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone seeking a unique and enriching experience near Chennai. A big thank you to Trek Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, and the TN Government for showcasing such hidden treasures to the public!
A very nice and calm trek with not a lot of steep climbing required. Definitely a trek for all the ages if you have the heart for it. The guides knew the trail in and out and educated us along the way. It was my first solo trek and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
