Me and my wife wanted to introduce trekking to our daughter who is 6 yrs old. Guided by the reviews in this trail we decided Baraliyar to be the best one to start it off. We reported at the Kallar Check post by 8:30 am for our 9 am slot as we are expected to report atleast 30 mins before the slot time. After signing the documents which the guide provided, the trek started on time from the Kallar Check post itself. We were accompanied by 3 guides Gokul, Chellamal and Valli who were local Tribals. We were taken along the 3 ft path laid by the British which was one of the earliest roads to Ooty. We spotted a couple of Indian Gaurs (Bison) which were resting in close proximity. We also spotted a number of birds like the Racket-tailed Drongo, Treepie, Jungle Fowl, Paradise Flycatcher and many more. We spotted some Spotted Deer, Giant Squirrels, Languars, and Wild Boars. We also saw the bones of animals killed by carnivores. My daughter found the entire trek very interesting and she loved the guides who took great care of her. We also felt very safe and comfortable for our daughter throughout the journey. The trek started off at Kallar and we returned back to the starting point without going near Baraliayar, which was not how the trail preview showed on the website. This must be updated at the earliest or if there are any deviations done by the staff on ground, it must be corrected. Although the guides were very informative, some trekkers might be experienced and may already know those information. Asking the participants in advance can help maintain silence during the trek if required. Looking forward to many more trekking experiences!!
I am glad that Trek Tamilnadu is organising little escapades in and around forests of Coimbatore! The Baraliyar trek starts right from the Kallar check post on the way to Connoor and Ooty. Once we reach the starting point, the forest guides take over the responsibility of showing us the trail and explaining about the animals and plants that we see. They are super helpful and friendly and this trek is especially kids friendly too. I went with a friend and we enjoyed being out of the bustle of the city and in the forest, just listening to birds and taking in all the greenery. We saw Malabar giant squirrels, Langurs, Macacques, deer and many colourful birds like the drongo and parrots. We had a great time! I am definitely going to sign up for more Trek Tamilnadu hikes and support this initiative!
I'm extremely satisfied about the Hospitality and friendliness of trekking guides. Also the understanding of the forest nature and the guidance according to the situation provided by them are very inspiring. The way they safeguard trekkers at any cost is an outstanding thing! The fun and thrilling part of my trek experience is 🐘🐘! Thank you so much trekt Tamilnadu team for made my first trek so memorable!!
