Overview
Trichy is a city that tends to surprise — quieter and more liveable than its size suggests, sitting comfortably in the heart of Tamil Nadu. On its outskirts, a diversion off the main road leads into Mamarathu Solai, where the landscape gently transforms: the trail drops through scrub and thorny bush into progressively deeper forest, dry deciduous giving way to moist, shaded canopy, broken only where the path opens into sunlight. The walk is easy and mostly downhill, crossing streams past terraced fields where locals grow millet. Along the way, paradise flycatchers, drongos, munias, owlets and the occasional migratory birds move through the trees, while frogs and toads are audible near the water. Ultimately, the trail ends at a tribal settlement beside a large pond a quiet finish to a walk that feels far removed from the city where it began.
