Located about 30 km northwest of Madurai, the Kutladampatti Falls – Thadagai Trail offers a moderately challenging trekking experience. The trail spans roughly 4 km round trip (2 km each way) and took us around 4 hours to complete at a relaxed pace, with plenty of breaks along the way. The initial stretch is slightly steep but manageable. The trail winds through the scenic Sirumalai Reserve Forest, which features a rich blend of dry and moist deciduous vegetation. Highlights of the Trek Rich Biodiversity: We encountered a wide variety of flora and fauna throughout the trail. The guides were incredibly informative, sharing insights about the different plants and their significance in local culture. The forest is a haven for butterflies, spiders, and an array of insects. Although it wasn’t birding season, the area holds great promise for birdwatching during the migratory months. Cultural Sites: One of the memorable aspects of the trek was visiting the 500-year-old Thadagai Nachiamman Temple. Nearby, we also passed by the serene Ramangiri Ashram, adding a spiritual dimension to the journey. Guided Experience: Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and very supportive throughout. They provided thoughtful refreshments like roasted peanuts and fresh lemonade—all served without the use of plastic. They even brought extra water for the group, which was a huge help once we ran out of our own supply. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching trekking experience. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a short but meaningful nature escape near Madurai.
The guidance and service provided by Poovendiran and Muneeswaran was really outstanding
We where guided by guides Ganesh and Murugan. It was short easy trek(The first half of climbing is a bit steep walk) for our gang of 7. We had fun. They gave us enough time to rest and enjoy the place. Our spots had lush green grass/trees and occasional streams of water with pure drinkable water. Explained to us about the rivers(sotharu and vembakali) and how the Kutladampatti falls gets its water and all the plants and its uses around the area. Light Refreshments / Snacks we had were nilakadalai(prolly 100gms) and lemon juice cooled in the falls at 1500 mt elevation. Overall a good enjoyable easy trek for beginners and a day outside the busy hustle.
